John B. White, Jr.

With over 45 years of legal experience, John B. White, Jr. is managing shareholder of John B. White, Jr. P.A. The law firm, located in the Upstate of South Carolina, is committed to dependably providing exceptional, responsible, full-service legal representation to every client, and focuses on the practice areas of serious catastrophic injury, business litigation, pharmaceutical litigation, products liability, and elder law litigation.

Following service in the U.S. Army, John received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law after graduating from Wofford College. He began his legal career as an attorney with a Spartanburg-area firm before becoming a solo practitioner in 1991, where he participated in the tobacco litigation on behalf of the State of South Carolina. A founder and shareholder of Harrison, White, Smith, and Coggins, P.C. in 1999, John successfully received a $327 million jury verdict against Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals in 2011.

In addition to managing the business side of a 12-attorney law firm while continuing to practice law in a variety of areas, John consistently demonstrates his commitment to South Carolina and the local community. John was appointed by Governor Henry McMaster as Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank in 2017, and currently serves on the South Carolina chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is a former member of the Board of the Spartanburg Day School, Wofford College, the American Red Cross and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, and annually sponsors local non-profits and other Spartanburg-area volunteer heroes.

John received the Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina Law School Alumni in 2020, and has been annually named a Best Lawyer in America since 2007 and a South Carolina Super Lawyer since 2008. John’s Bar Admissions include South Carolina; the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit; the U.S. Supreme Court; and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Florida.

An avid hunter and outdoorsman, John is a member of Spartanburg’s Episcopal Church of Advent. He and his wife, Karen, have six daughters and 24 grandchildren.
